Facebook has removed nearly two dozen more accounts and pages linked to Myanmar’s military, which the U.N. is investigating for possible charges of genocide during its campaign of violence against the Rohingya Muslim minority.
Facebook announced the removal of the 13 pages and 10 accounts “for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior” including distributing pro-military propaganda, the social network said in a news release Monday. The accounts focused on a range of topics from celebrities and entertainment to military figures, and commanded a combined following of 1.35 million unique users, according to Facebook.
“We want to make it more difficult for people to manipulate our platform in Myanmar and will continue to investigate and take action on this behavior,” Facebook said in the release.

(BANJUL, Gambia) — Gambia has launched a truth, reconciliation and reparations commission to lay bare abuses committed under the 22-year rule of former leader Yahya Jammeh, with President Adama Barrow declaring the country’s “dark days” are over.
The long-awaited commission is meant to help heal the tiny West African nation after years of extrajudicial killings, torture and abuses in phony “HIV treatment” centers.
It also is expected to lay the groundwork for possible prosecution of Jammeh, who flew into exile in Equatorial Guinea in early 2017, and others. The new government under Barrow, who handed Jammeh a surprise election defeat at the head of an opposition coalition, has vowed to deliver justice to victims.

A 2,000 foot-long floating pipe connected to an enormous net arrived Tuesday at its destination in the Pacific Ocean to begin cleaning up garbage.
Dutch environmental start-up Ocean Cleanup Foundation launched the apparatus from San Francisco last month, CNN reports. It is expected to soon begin work clearing plastics and other debris from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the largest of five giant oceanic trash piles, located between California and Hawaii.
The U-shaped pipe is connected to a 3-meter-deep net to help trap litter. It is also remote controlled, according to CNN, and equipped with GPS-enabled buoys and satellite receptors to communicate with nearby boats.
A garbage hauling boat will make repeated trips between the pipe and shore every few months to remove the accumulated plastic, which Ocean Cleanup reportedly hopes to recycle.
